VACANCY: Family and Child Education (FACE) PARENT EDUCATOR

Summary: Parent Educators provide personal visits (usually in the home) with primary care providers of children prenatal to age 5, using the Parents as Teachers Foundational and Foundational 2 (age 3-Kindergarten). They also provide screenings, FACE Family Circles, and resource networking. It is a multi-faceted position. Preparation to become a skilled Parent Educator includes becoming a certified Parent Educator by attending a weeklong training in St. Louis, MO. Applicant must be able to pass all assessments from training and complete a developmental chart. Additional training includes a Foundational 2 training to work with families ages 3-Kindergarten. Annual certification is offered in on-going professional development: FACE professional development includes participation in Regional Meetings and FACE webinars.

DutieS anD reSponSibilitieS: • Be able to use technology to access curriculum, plan personal visits and content for Family Circles and diligently document services through data based systems - NASIS and PENELOPE.

• Schedule and complete at least 12 personal visits each week (3-4 personal visits each day).

• Conduct personal visits (60 minutes) on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with each family.

• Conduct multi child visits when family has more than one child.

• Plan the visits, gather materials, travel, conduct the visit, and clearly document the visit.

• Be able to incorporate Ojibwe language/culture within the curriculum.

• Develop a comfortable relationship with each family to meet the needs of each child.

• Offer a monthly FACE Family Circle that focuses on child development, neuroscience or a parenting topic (three areas of emphasis).

• Complete annual screenings for each home based child.

• Complete Life Skills Progression every 6 months for each participating adult and child.

• Follow up on screenings.

• Be a part of a Community Advisory Council.

• Help parents and children transition to either FACE center-based pre-school setting, PAT foundational 2 (3-Kindergarten), or to the school’s Kindergarten.

requirementS for Hiring:

• Have an AA degree in Early Childhood or equivalent, BA/BS preferred.

• Be able to travel to required trainings.

• Hold a valid driver’s license.

• Be able to work well in a team.

• Be able to use a laptop and software to plan and document services.

• Be able to learn the PAT curriculum and convey that information to parents.

employment requirementS:

• Background investigation, drug test

• Experience working with native children preferred.

• Must be supportive of the philosophy, concept, policy and procedures of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe-Waadookodaading School.
